Amy Brown, PhD, RD is an accomplished researcher in the field of nutrition therapy and herbal medicine. She is an author of a nutrition textbook used by numerous universities, and a member of the American Dietetic Association.

How to Find Us

We are located at the Kakaako Campus of the John A. Burns School of Medicine at 651 Ilalo St. Honolulu, HI. This is parallel to Ala Moana Blvd, one block towards the ocean next to Keawe St. behind the “Gold Bond” building.

We are in the single-story wing on the ewa-makai (south-west) part of the campus, just behind the ocean end of the Hawaiian herbal gardens. There are three sets of double-doors as you face the building from the center of campus. Through the right-hand set of double doors, you will find us at the Wellness Center and Integrative Medicine Clinic.

Parking can be found on Ilalo St (metered) or in the Keawe St. Parking Lot ($3.00).

Medical Students with Dr. Shintani

Welcome to the Dept of Complementary and Alternative Medicine of the John A. Burns School of Medicine. At the Wellness Center, we have 7 practitioners who are double, triple, or quadruple trained in at least one conventional healing modality and at least one "alternative" healing modality.

To to work with Dr. Shintani, please check on the schedule by calling 692-0908. He usually sees patients on Tuesday afternoon and on Thursday morning. If there are
more than two students in a rotation, the schedule may be staggered so that there are no more than two per day. He can be reached at 2551696. Please send him an email at drshintani@gmail.com with contact information so that he has your name, email address and phone number.

Dr. Shintani is the Associate Chair of the CAM Dept in charge of clinical practice. He is a member of the National Advisory Board to the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. He is Board Certified in Preventive Medicine, is credentialed in Nutrition and worked for 18 years in Family Practice at a community health center. (see his description on this blog)



Please be prompt at the Wellness Center and please wear your white coat and bring your stethoscope. You may be asked to do vital signs, brief physical exams, and SOAP notes. You may also be asked to do literature search and read up on topics of interest.
